The Castaway was my second watercolor in the Fly Fishing series. After being highly successful with my first piece, Last Catch, I decided to do a piece that showed the motion the fishing line exhibits when it is masterfully cast. It is beautiful to watch. My fisherman is left-handed…I didn’t realize it when I painted it, but it turned out that way.
It’s a relatively simple piece. Yet the movement in the picture, is felt by those that enjoy this great outdoor sport. It was a great successful follow up piece.
I contemplated doing a background of trees and rocks, but when I finished the water, my feeling was, “It is finished; do not distract from the feeling of the cast.”
