Over the Rainbow

Over the Rainbow…was my fifth piece in the Fly Fishing series. I was developing a looser style in my watercolors, and I feel this piece displayed it. It is my favorite Fish.

It started as a more significant piece with a fisherman in the background. I could not quite capture the appearance of the fisherman to match the fight I felt I had achieved with the fish. I decided to eliminate the fisherman and let the fish stand alone. I was delighted with the colors I worked with. The water's soft hues next to the intense, bold colors of the fish. The name didn’t come to me until later. The piece went un-named for quite a while. Then it came to me; it is a favorite song of my grandchildren. It hit me while singing it to my grandson at bedtime: Over The Rainbow was a perfect name for the piece.
